Happy Independence Day to all! With many folks heading out to beaches, vacations, or to run the Peachtree (including yours truly, although "run" is very much a relative term), the ride calendar is a little slower this time of year. Right now, there is no "featured ride" for this Saturday, but I'll keep you posted by email if something pops up.
I have added an Apple Valley Loop/Maysville Extension for the following Saturday, July 11th, tentative until I get final confirmation from the Nitty Gritty schedulers. See the listing below.
Summertime is also prep time for the 5th Annual Teardrop Century. Remember that you have just two more days (through 6/30) to receive a bonus pair of AthSav socks with your Teardrop signup. (See more details below). It's also time to order your Teardrop jerseys and bib/shorts using the Castelli Team Order link -
https://teamorder.serviziocorse.com/index.aspx?pc=8AE78E30-48DC-4FD2-8DE5-0EF134E476D9 - and set up your user name (email address) and password as a New User. Then, simply order the items you want:
Men's and Women's Jerseys - $80
Bib Shorts - $100
Women's Shorts - $90
Make sure you enter your order by July 12th to ensure delivery in time for the Teardrop Century.
Finally, thank you for continuing to send info about rides and events of interest. Frank Henning forwarded me this write-up for the August 28-30 Find Your Park Bike Event, celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service. This two-day ride will take you to Jimmy Carter National Historic Site, Andersonville National Historic Site, Florence Marina State Park, Providence Canyon State Park, Georgia Veterans State Park, and includes a ride on the SAM Shortline Excursion Train. Oconee Heights Baptist Church, 4180 Jefferson Rd., Athens
Enjoy the full Apple Valley route (about 42 miles) or one of several shorter options available. Or add the Maysville Extension out of Dry Pond for a total distance of around 60 miles. Ride leader will be doing the long route and extension at an average of 16-17 mph. If there is a leader who would like to co-lead a shorter and/or slower-paced group, let me know. Store stop in Dry Pond at roughly the halfway point. Please park in the grassy area beside the church. Maps available on the Nitty Gritty website and I will bring several to the start as well.
