First, I wanted to say very briefly that a diverse group from many corners of the local bike community met this week with Rebekah Snider of the Georgia Department of Economic Tourism, and Hannah Smith of the Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau, to talk about how to promote the Athens area as a cycle-touring destination for folks all over the state and beyond. Thanks to Valerie Aldridge for pulling this together. You will be hearing much more about this in the coming weeks and months, but the potential for our community is great.
Next, it looks like the weather is going to break just right for Saturday's AthSav Kickoff Ride, departing 10 a.m. from the Jittery Joe's Roaster, 425 Barber Street. Free and open to all, with post-ride Subway sandwiches and snacks. If you purchased AthSav gear and haven't picked it up yet, it will be at the Roaster this Saturday. If you haven't purchased your items yet, we'll have jerseys, bibs, hoodies, and socks available for sale.
Finally, I wanted to share info about two exciting events, one from Jimmy Marbut at Sunshine Cycles, and the other from Mary Charles Howard of the Agro Cycle Tour:
FREE Ladies Night Maintenance Clinic:
1063 Baxter Street, Ste 600
We are having a FREE Ladies Night Maintenance Clinic at the Athens shop on Friday, March 13th from 6-8 p.m. The Liv Cycling (Giant bicycles women's brand) ambassadors will be there to go over common issues such as changing a flat, fixing a dropped chain, etc. that all cyclists are bound to encounter. It's a free event open to anyone, as long as they are a female! Snacks and drinks will be provided. We will follow up the clinic on Saturday with a bike demo day with a full line on female (and male) specific bikes to try out at Trail Creek Park in Athens.
